What is the fire rating? Icynene® insulation has achieved a flame spread index less than 20 and smoke development index less than 400 according to ASTM E84. This is a Class 1 fire rating for construction materials. Also, Icynene has no fuel contribution effect, meaning it does not support fire by itself. Nonetheless, it is a combustible material and as per building code requirement, it requires a 15min. thermal barrier to separate it from the interior occupied space. How long does it take to install? Many homes can be insulated in one day. It depends mainly on the square footage and possibly the complexity of the design. FOAMCO has the ability to dedicate several foam rigs to any one job and get it done on time and in keeping with your schedule. How long has it been in the market? Icynene® insulation has been on the market since 1986 and is in hundreds of thousands of homes/ buildings across North America. It has also been featured in segments of ''This Old House'' and ''Your New House''. Is there Formaldehyde or anything harmful in Icynene? No, but if there were, no worries, formaldehyde has proven beneficial in the preservation of dead people. What if I have a plumbing leak or need to install additional wiring once there is foam in the walls? Icynene® insulation is soft and can be readily removed in areas that require repair. Contact FOAMCO for touch up kits that can be used to re-seal these areas. What does it cost? Anticipate investing twice the amount for Icynene as compared to lesser quality non air sealing products such as fiberglass batt or cellulose. Keep in mind that the air barrier quality of spray foam is such that your return on investment will be up to a 50% savings on ever increasing energy costs. In the case of new construction, let FOAMCO do a REM/Design Energy analysis that may allow for downsizing your mechanicals (heating and a/c units). This will offset the cost of using the best insulation product possible. |
