Open Cell

Soft, flexible, excellent for sound control and interior walls.

Closed Cell

Dense, rigid, moisture‑resistant, and ideal for basements, crawl spaces, and exterior walls.

Which Is Best for Each Part of the Home

Attics: open cell

Basements: closed cell

Crawl spaces: closed cell

Walls: depends on moisture exposure

Rim joists: closed cell

Bonus rooms: open cell for sound + insulation

Key Differences

R‑Value: closed cell is higher

Moisture resistance: closed cell wins

Sound control: open cell wins

Cost: open cell is more budget‑friendly

Structural strength: closed cell adds rigidity

Why 2026 Homeowners Need to Know the Difference

Building codes, energy costs, and moisture concerns are changing. Choosing the right foam ensures long term performance.

The Bottom Line

Humidity rises

Dust and odors travel upward

Energy bills spike

Why Spray Foam Works

1. Seals Rim Joists

The rim joist is the #1 source of air leakage in most homes.

2. Blocks Moisture From the Ground

Crawl spaces are humidity factories.

3. Prevents Hot Air From Entering the Living Space

Air sealing stops the upward movement of heat.

4. Stabilizes the Entire Home Envelope

Fixing the bottom fixes the top.

Signs Your Basement or Crawl Space Is Causing Problems

Hot upstairs bedrooms

Cold floors

Musty smells

High humidity

Uneven temperatures

The Bottom Line

If your upstairs is hot, the problem is almost always below your feet and spray foam is the fix.
Wall cavities

Why Spray Foam Is the Best Humidity Defense

1. It Air Seals

Humidity travels with air. Stop the air, stop the moisture.

2. It Insulates

Warm, moist air condenses on cool surfaces. Spray foam prevents condensation.

3. It Stabilizes Indoor Temperatures

Stable temperatures = less moisture accumulation.

4. It Protects Structural Wood

Closed‑cell foam adds rigidity and moisture resistance.

How Spray Foam Helps During Spring

1. Blocks Pollen and Outdoor Allergens

Spray foam seals cracks and gaps where pollen enters especially around rim joists, attic penetrations, and wall cavities.

2. Controls Moisture Before Summer

Spring humidity is the start of mold season. Spray foam reduces moisture infiltration and stabilizes indoor humidity.

3. Eliminates Drafts From Temperature Swings

Spring drafts are a sign of air leakage. Spray foam stops them at the source.

4. Reduces Dust and Outdoor Odors

Air sealing = cleaner indoor air.

Why Spring Is the Best Time to Address These Issues

Pollen is at its peak

Humidity is rising

AC season is approaching

Mold growth accelerates in May and June

Homeowners feel discomfort daily

The Bottom Line

Spray foam creates a cleaner, healthier, more stable home environment during the most chaotic season of the year. Call [[phone]] to speak with an Insulation Specialist to learn more about how insulation can protect your health today!

Where Homes Lose the Most Energy

Attics: up to 40% of summer heat gain

Basements & crawl spaces: major sources of humidity

Walls: air leakage around outlets, framing, and gaps

Rim joists: one of the biggest hidden culprits

Realistic Spray Foam Savings in 2026

Hudson Valley homeowners typically see:

20–40% lower cooling costs

Longer AC lifespan

More stable indoor temperatures

Less humidity and mold risk

Why Spray Foam Saves More Than Other Insulation

1. Air Sealing = Energy Savings

Most insulation only slows heat transfer. Spray foam stops air movement entirely.

2. Reduces AC Runtime

A sealed home doesn’t leak cold air. Your AC cycles less, saving money.

3. Controls Humidity

Moisture is expensive to cool. Spray foam reduces humidity load dramatically.

Where to Insulate for Maximum Summer Savings

Attic roof deck

Basement rim joists

Crawl space walls

Knee walls

Bonus rooms over garages

The Bottom Line

Spray foam is one of the only home upgrades that pays for itself, especially during high‑cost summers like 2026. Call [[phone]] to speak with an Insulation Specialist to learn more about how we can keep you comfortable year-round today!

May is the most overlooked month for home insulation upgrades and ironically, it’s the month that delivers the highest ROI for homeowners in the Hudson Valley. Temperatures are warming, AC systems are being tested for the first time, and energy bills are about to climb. But the real reason May matters is timing: once June heat arrives, your home’s weak points become expensive.

Why May Is the Sweet Spot

1. AC Season Hasn’t Fully Hit Yet

Your home hasn’t absorbed summer heat. Attics are cooler. Crawl spaces are drier. Installations are faster and more efficient.

2. Energy Loss Is About to Spike

Homes with air leaks lose up to 30% of cooled air in summer. Spray foam seals these leaks before the heat wave.

3. Contractors Still Have Availability

By mid‑June, insulation schedules tighten. May gives homeowners flexibility and faster turnaround.

4. You Feel the Drafts,,,But Not the Heat Yet

Spring temperature swings expose air leaks. If your home feels chilly in the morning and warm by afternoon, insulation is the culprit.

What Spray Foam Fixes Before Summer

Hot second floors

AC running nonstop

High humidity

Uneven room temperatures

Dust and pollen infiltration

Rising energy bills

Why Spray Foam Outperforms Fiberglass in Summer

Spray foam doesn’t just insulate it air seals, which is the #1 factor in summer comfort. Fiberglass can’t stop air movement. Spray foam blocks heat, humidity, and outdoor air from entering your home.

The Bottom Line

May is the last month to get ahead of summer heat. Homeowners who insulate now enjoy lower bills, cooler rooms, and a quieter home all season long.
From "Damp & Musty" to "Dry & Functional": The March Crawl Space Transformation

As spring rains raise the water table in Sussex County, NJ and Rockland County, NY, many homeowners notice the return of that unmistakable musty crawl space odor. In March, rising humidity and the Stack Effect pull air from the crawl space into the first floor-meaning up to half the air you breathe may contain mold spores, moisture, and wood‑rot gases. Damp air also costs more to heat, driving up early‑spring energy bills.

Foamco Inc. transforms wet, musty crawl spaces with spray foam encapsulation, sealing rim joists and walls, installing a heavy‑duty vapor barrier, and blocking moisture at its source. The result is warmer floors, cleaner indoor air, and long‑term protection for your home's structural wood.

Stop the "March swamp" before it spreads into your living space. Schedule a crawl space evaluation with Foamco Inc. today.

As the snow melts and the spring rains begin, the water table in Sussex County, NJ and Rockland County, NY is rising. For homes built over a crawl space, this usually means one thing: the return of the "musty funk."

Why March Humidity is Dangerous

A damp crawl space isn't just a smell issue. Because of the "Stack Effect," about 50% of the air you breathe on the first floor comes directly from the crawl space. If that area is wet, you are breathing mold spores and rot-gases. Furthermore, damp air is harder (and more expensive) to heat during these chilly March nights.

The Foamco Transformation

We specialize in turning these "forgotten" spaces into clean, dry areas using spray foam encapsulation.

The Seal: We apply spray foam to the crawl space silver/rim joists and walls to stop air and moisture infiltration.

The Barrier: A heavy-duty vapor barrier on the floor prevents ground moisture from rising.

The Result: Your floors feel warmer, your air smells cleaner, and your home’s structural wood is protected from rot.

Stop the "March Swamp" before it ruins your spring. Schedule a crawl space evaluation with the experts at Foamco Inc. today.

Tax season is the perfect time for Hudson Valley homeowners to boost their refunds while cutting future energy costs. Despite late‑2025 updates, the Inflation Reduction Act (Section 25C) still offers a 30% tax credit-up to $1,200-for insulation materials installed in 2026. Homeowners in Newburgh, Warwick, and surrounding areas can stack even more savings through NYSERDA's EmPower+ and Comfort Home programs, which provide instant rebates of $2,000-$4,000 and low‑interest financing for spray‑foam upgrades.

Foamco Inc. makes the process simple by supplying the documentation needed for IRS Form 5695 and helping homeowners plan a year‑by‑year strategy. Since credits reset annually, you can insulate different parts of your home each year and maximize your savings while improving comfort and efficiency.

It’s tax season, and if you’re looking for ways to maximize your return while lowering your future bills, look no further than your walls. Despite some legislative changes in late 2025, the Inflation Reduction Act (Section 25C) continues to provide significant incentives for New York homeowners to "weatherize" in 2026.

What Can You Claim?

For projects completed in 2026, the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit allows you to claim 30% of the cost of insulation materials, up to an annual limit of $1,200.

Stack Your Savings in NY

If you live in Newburgh or Warwick, you may also be eligible for NYSERDA’s EmPower+ or Comfort Home programs. Depending on your household income and energy savings, these can offer:

Instant Rebates: Up to $2,000–$4,000 for "seal and insulate" packages.

Low-Interest Financing: Making the switch to spray foam more affordable than ever.

At Foamco Inc., we don't just spray foam; we help you navigate the paperwork. We provide the detailed invoices and material specifications you need for IRS Form 5695.

Pro Tip: These credits reset every year. If you did your attic last year, you can do your crawl space this year and claim the credit again! Call us to plan your 2026 energy strategy.

March Madness: Is Your "Ice Dam" Damage Hiding a Bigger Problem?

As the heavy February snow finally melts, many homeowners in Kingston and New Paltz are discovering ceiling stains, peeling paint, and water damage-classic signs of ice dams. While most people blame the roof, the real culprit is poor attic insulation. Heat escaping into the attic warms the roof deck, melts snow from underneath, and causes water to refreeze at the eaves, backing up under shingles.

March is the ideal time to fix the root cause before spring rains or next winter create more damage. The solution includes removing wet insulation, sealing attic air leaks, and applying spray foam encapsulation to keep the roof deck cold and prevent future ice dams.

Instead of patching drywall, homeowners can eliminate the problem for good by having Foamco Inc. evaluate their attic and recommend a long‑term insulation upgrade.

The heavy snow of February 2026 has finally melted, but for many homeowners in Kingston and New Paltz, the evidence of a rough winter is just showing up. Have you noticed water stains on your ceiling or peeling paint near your windows? These are the calling cards of ice dams.

The Root Cause Isn’t Your Roof

Many people think ice dams are a roofing problem. In reality, they are an insulation problem. When heat leaks from your living space into your attic, it warms the roof deck, melting the snow from underneath. That water runs down to the cold eaves, freezes into a dam, and backs up under your shingles.

The March Fix

Now that the ice is gone, March is the ideal time to address the root cause before next winter (or the spring rains) causes more damage.

Beat the 2026 Energy Rate Hikes: Why March is the Time for Summer Prep

With New York energy delivery rates projected to rise again heading into summer 2026, Hudson Valley homeowners are looking for ways to avoid skyrocketing AC bills. In homes from Poughkeepsie to Fishkill, poorly insulated attics can reach 140°F, forcing air conditioners to run constantly and driving summer electric bills past $400.

Upgrading to spray foam insulation in March creates a powerful thermal barrier that locks in efficiency before the heat arrives. Homeowners typically see 30-50% reductions in heating and cooling costs, less strain on their HVAC systems, and a boost in home value-especially as energy efficiency becomes a top priority for 2026 buyers.

Beat the summer rush and rising rates by scheduling your Foamco insulation quote now and stay cool for less this year.

We’ve all seen the news: energy delivery rates in New York are projected to climb again as we head into the summer of 2026. While your furnace might be getting a break this month, your AC is just around the corner. If you want to avoid those $400+ electric bills in July, the work starts in March.

The Attic Heat Trap

In a poorly insulated home, your attic can reach 140°F by midday in the summer. That heat pushes down into your living space, forcing your air conditioner to run non-stop. Most homes in Poughkeepsie and Fishkill have old fiberglass batts that have settled over time, leaving "thermal bridges" where heat pours in.

Lock in Efficiency Now

By installing spray foam in your attic this month, you create a thermal "cap" on your home.

Immediate Savings: Homeowners typically see a 30–50% reduction in heating and cooling costs.

HVAC Longevity: When your home stays cool naturally, your expensive AC unit doesn't have to work nearly as hard.

Increased Home Value: Energy efficiency is a top priority for 2026 homebuyers.

With an early, intense pollen surge expected in March 2026, Hudson Valley homeowners in Middletown, Monroe, and beyond are bracing for allergy season. What many don't realize is that traditional insulation can make symptoms worse. Fiberglass and cellulose act like giant air filters, trapping pollen, dust, and mold spores-then releasing them into your home whenever the HVAC system runs.

Closed‑cell spray foam insulation solves the problem by creating a true airtight seal. It blocks outdoor allergens at their entry points, reduces moisture that fuels mold growth, and dramatically cuts down on dust circulation. The result is cleaner, healthier indoor air during the toughest allergy months.

Homeowners looking to breathe easier this spring can contact Foamco Inc. for a free indoor air quality audit and learn how spray foam can transform their home into a pollen‑proof sanctuary.

If you live in the Hudson Valley, you know that March doesn’t just bring the thaw—it brings the "yellow dust." With meteorologists predicting an early and intense tree pollen surge for March 2026, many homeowners in Middletown and Monroe are bracing for allergy season. But did you know your insulation could be making your symptoms worse?

The "Air Filter" Trap

Traditional insulation like fiberglass and cellulose acts like a giant, dirty air filter. Because these materials are porous, they allow outdoor air to flow through them. As pollen, dust, and mold spores drift through your attic or wall cavities, they get trapped in the fibers. When your HVAC system kicks on, those allergens are dislodged and circulated right into your living room.

How Spray Foam Blocks the Sneeze

Unlike traditional materials, closed-cell spray foam creates an airtight seal. It expands to fill every crack and crevice where air (and pollen) usually leaks in.

Total Air Barrier: It stops the infiltration of outdoor irritants at the source.

Moisture Control: By sealing out damp spring air, it prevents the mold growth that triggers respiratory issues.

Dust Reduction: An airtight home means significantly less dust accumulating on your furniture and in your lungs.

Don't spend another spring hiding indoors with the windows shut. By upgrading to spray foam, you can turn your home into a true sanctuary. Contact Foamco Inc. today for a free indoor air quality audit.

Attics

Heat rises, and if your attic isn’t properly insulated, that warmth escapes through the roof.

Poor ventilation can lead to condensation and ice dams.

Crawl Spaces

Often overlooked, crawl spaces can be a major source of heat loss.

Moisture and cold air can accumulate, causing mold, mildew, and potential structural issues.

Garages

Uninsulated garage ceilings and walls let cold air into adjacent living spaces.

Vehicles and stored items may be exposed to freezing temperatures, increasing wear and damage.

Spray Foam Solutions for Winter Efficiency

Spray foam insulation is ideal for these problem areas because it:

Seals Gaps and Cracks: Expands to fill hard-to-reach spaces, preventing drafts and heat loss.

Controls Moisture: Acts as a barrier to moisture and condensation, reducing mold and mildew risks.

Improves Energy Efficiency: Keeps heated air inside your home, reducing winter energy costs.

Long-Lasting Performance: Maintains its shape and effectiveness for years, unlike fiberglass or cellulose.

DIY Inspection Guide for Homeowners

Before calling a professional, you can check these areas yourself:

Attics: Look for gaps, sagging insulation, or frost on roof trusses.

Crawl Spaces: Check for damp soil, water stains, or exposed ducts.

Garages: Feel for cold spots near shared walls and ceilings.

General: Look for drafts, cold walls, or uneven temperatures in rooms above these areas.

If you notice any of these issues, it’s time to schedule a professional spray foam installation. Don’t let heat escape and moisture damage your home this winter.
Discover the hidden dangers of poor winter insulation, including condensation, mold, and frozen pipes. Learn how spray foam insulation protects your home and improves energy efficiency.

Winter can be harsh on homes that aren’t properly insulated. While many homeowners focus on comfort and energy savings, insufficient insulation can cause serious hidden problems that affect both your home’s structure and your family’s health.

The Risks of Poor Winter Insulation

Without proper insulation, your home is vulnerable to several winter-related issues:

Condensation – Cold surfaces in poorly insulated walls or attics can cause moisture buildup, leading to damp spots and potential structural damage.

Mold and Mildew – Excess moisture creates the perfect environment for mold growth, which can trigger allergies and respiratory issues.

Frozen Pipes – Inadequate insulation around pipes increases the risk of freezing and bursting, leading to costly repairs.

Drafts and Cold Spots – Gaps in insulation allow cold air to enter, making heating systems work harder and increasing energy bills.

These issues often go unnoticed until significant damage occurs, making winter preparation essential.

How Spray Foam Insulation Solves These Problems

Spray foam insulation is more than just a barrier against the cold—it actively protects your home:

Seals Gaps and Cracks: Expands to fill even hard-to-reach areas, preventing drafts and cold air infiltration.

Controls Moisture: Acts as a vapor barrier to minimize condensation, reducing the risk of mold and mildew.

Protects Pipes: Maintains warmer interior temperatures around plumbing, helping prevent freezing.

Long-Term Durability: Unlike fiberglass or cellulose, spray foam maintains its effectiveness over time, ensuring continuous protection.

By addressing these issues proactively, spray foam insulation keeps your home safe, comfortable, and energy-efficient throughout winter.

Don’t wait for condensation, mold, or frozen pipes to cause expensive damage.
Don't let high heating bills take a toll this winter. Upgrade to spray foam insulation with Foamco Inc. and enjoy a warmer, more energy-efficient home.

As winter approaches, homeowners across the country are looking for ways to reduce heating costs while keeping their homes warm and comfortable. One of the most effective solutions is spray foam insulation, which seals gaps, prevents drafts, and improves overall energy efficiency.

Real-Life Energy Savings with Spray Foam

Many homeowners who upgrade to spray foam insulation report significant savings on their heating bills:

Case Study 1: A Hudson Valley family reduced their monthly heating costs by 35% after insulating their attic and crawl space with spray foam.

Case Study 2: In a New York City townhouse, spray foam installation in the walls and basement led to a $150 monthly decrease in energy costs during winter.

These examples demonstrate that spray foam provides a quick return on investment, paying for itself through reduced energy bills.

Tips for Maximizing Insulation Efficiency

To get the most out of your spray foam installation, consider these tips:

Seal All Gaps: Make sure windows, doors, and ductwork are properly sealed.

Insulate Problem Areas: Focus on attics, basements, crawl spaces, and exterior walls.

Regular Maintenance: Inspect insulation annually for any signs of wear or moisture.

Complementary Measures: Use draft stoppers, weather stripping, and insulated curtains for added energy savings.

Pair Spray Foam with a Programmable Thermostat

For optimal energy efficiency, pairing spray foam insulation with a programmable thermostat is highly effective.

Set lower temperatures when you’re away or asleep.

Maintain comfortable temperatures when home, without wasting energy.

Monitor and adjust heating patterns to maximize savings during peak winter months.

Together, spray foam and smart thermostat usage can reduce heating bills even further, helping you stay comfortable while saving money. Don’t let high heating bills take a toll this winter. Upgrade to spray foam insulation with Foamco Inc. and enjoy a warmer, more energy-efficient home. Call [[phone]] to schedule your professional inspection and installation.
